Mill Rolls and Conveyor Rolls for Steel Mills and Metal Processing

Mill Rolls for Rolling Mills: Forged Steel, Cast Steel & High-Chromium Cast Iron

Mill rolls are core high-load components installed inside mill housings, equipped with roll necks for drive connection.

Materials: Forged steel, cast steel, high-chromium cast iron, high-speed steel. Worn rolls can be restored via hardfacing.

Function: Apply rolling force to steel billets and plates to achieve plastic deformation of metal, thickness reduction and profile forming. Subject to heavy rolling loads, impact stress and thermal fatigue.

Conveyor Rolls (Table Rolls / Pinch Rolls)

Conveyor rolls are arranged upstream and downstream of rolling mills. They do not participate in metal deformation, but perform material transport; pinch rolls additionally provide strip gripping. They can be installed as single units or assembled in pairs within roll housings.

Materials: Forged alloy steel. Roll surfaces can be hardfaced for wear resistance; a water-cooled structure is available for high-temperature service.

Function: Convey steel billets and plates. Pinch rolls grip strips to enable feeding and tension control. Subject to abrasive wear and erosion by high-temperature scale.

Specifications & Typical Service Conditions

Mill Rolls

1. Medium-small size φ200-450 mm: For rolling sections, bars and small/medium plates. Withstand moderate impact; roll surface suitable for repeated hardfacing and re-grinding. Applied in small and medium-sized steel mills, section mills and non-ferrous metal rolling workshops.

2. Heavy-duty φ450-850 mm: For hot-rolled heavy plates, wide strips and large sections. Endure high rolling force and cyclic thermal shock, requiring high surface hardness and thermal-fatigue resistance. Widely used in large and medium-sized hot rolling mills and roll repair workshops.

3. Extra-large special φ850-1300 mm: For heavy plate and large billet breakdown rolling in continuous rolling lines. Extremely high loads; strict requirements for forging quality, hardened-layer depth and non-destructive testing. Applied in leading steel producers and heavy-plate production bases.

4. Precision small size φ80-180 mm: Used for light cold rolling, copper/aluminum foil and precision thin-plate rolling. High surface finish requirement; not for heavy-duty hot rolling.

Conveyor Rolls

1. Light-duty φ80-140 mm: High-speed transport of thin plates and small billets for cooling tables and delivery sections. Light load, smooth rotation. Suitable for small and medium-sized section and plate production lines.

2. General-purpose φ140-280 mm: Transport medium-to-heavy plates and cast billets. Usable as furnace entry/exit table rolls or pinch rolls. Resist moderate impact and scale erosion; highest versatility. Adopted by metallurgical equipment manufacturers and spare-parts suppliers.

3. Heavy high-temperature φ280-450 mm: Transport red-hot billets at continuous casting outlets. Continuous heavy-load operation under high temperature and scale erosion. Water-cooled option available for harsh conditions. Applied in combined continuous casting-hot rolling lines and large hot rolling mills.

4. Miniature φ50-75 mm: For light-industry film and plate lines. Low load, limited high-temperature resistance; not suitable for heavy metallurgical service.

Product Highlights

Mill rolls are critical load-bearing parts demanding high roll-body strength and a deep hardened layer, supporting re-grinding and hardfacing remanufacturing. Conveyor rolls focus on rotational performance, wear resistance and high-temperature tolerance. Custom fabrication is available according to customer drawings for both roll types.
